The Policy Committee works to examine district policy, regulations, and statistics regarding race-based discrimination in West Windsor-Plainsboro Schools. By analyzing this data, the committee seeks to develop zero-tolerance and rehabilitative approaches to students who’ve used racial/ethnic slurs and have committed hate/bias-related actions. Currently, the committee has worked to create a Tip Line to report incidents of racial bias/prejudice directly to staff.
The Education Committee aims to identify and implement curriculum modifications in the Social Studies and Language Arts departments to ensure that cultural inclusivity, social awareness, and anti-racism are key tenets in the classroom. The committee also works to ensure the equitable treatment of BIPOC students in all subject areas. As of September 2020, the committee has built and popularized racial literacy and racial sensitivity courses for students, educators, and staff, as well as facilitated discussions on racial biases and prejudices and their impact in a classroom environment.
The Programming Committee aims to plan events and initiatives that celebrate our community's diversity. Through ongoing collaborations with school clubs (School Climate and Culture Teams, Black Student Unions) and community organizations (The African American Parent Support Group [AAPSG], West Windsor Human Resource Council [WWHRC]), the Programming Committee seeks to unify the WW-P community by sharing unique voices and perspectives. The committee is also working with district alumni to form an Alumni Mentorship Program to guide BIPOC students in their social and academic endeavors.
